Level I vs. Level II:
Level I (July 6 - 11) is designed to introduce financial staff and trustees to the basic concepts involved in investing long-term assets for nonprofits. It is conducted as a series of lectures by well-known academic experts and managers/practitioners. While it requires little knowledge of technical terms, some experience with investing and knowledge of basic terms is helpful. It does involve fairly extensive prior reading and we encourage class participation and group study with peers.
Level II (June 8 - 12) The curriculum of Level II will primarily consist of longer (1.5 -3.0 hour) sessions which will be interactive and often based on case studies. There will be extensive required readings both before and during the course, as well as opportunities for group study and discussion.
The course will explore the leading edge of theory and practice as it relates to the management of long-term funds in nonprofit organizations, including discussions on portfolio construction using simulation models, asset allocation, spending policies and maintenance of intergenerational equity. The purpose and use of alternative assets and strategies will be examined in depth as practitioners in the field discuss how they conduct due diligence, monitoring and risk management as they search for alpha.
Finally, we will examine the changing governance, fiduciary and reporting standards emerging from an extraordinary era of governmental, regulatory and media activism. For further information or questions regarding the 2008 Endowment Institute call Ms. Allison Parker at (203)563-5021 or click here.
