Foundations and Philanthropic Organizations

Having been founded with a $2.8 million grant from the Ford Foundation in 1969 (with the commencement of operations in 1971), Commonfund is testament to the importance of philanthropy and effective stewardship of financial assets.  It is with this perspective that Commonfund provides investment and advisory services to a broad range of U.S., Canadian and U.K. foundations, charities and operating nonprofits including:

  • Private and Family Foundations
  • Community Foundations
  • Public Foundations and Charities
  • Cultural Organizations (e.g., museums, symphonies, ballets)
  • Religious Organizations
  • Social Services Organizations

We work with clients across a range of mandates, from single asset classes or strategies to full investment outsourcing.  And, fundamental to our mission and approach with foundations is to work with clients on matters such as:

  • Board governance
  • Investment policy (including asset allocation and distribution policies)
  • Risk management

We view these all as the building blocks for boards, committees and investment staff in the fulfillment of their fiduciary responsibilities.

Commonfund provides a full array of investment and advisory services to foundations and charities, including:

  • Outsourced Solutions
  • Alternatives
  • Private Capital

We provide commingled funds and separate accounts for eligible investors across virtually all sectors of the capital markets.
