Commonfund Appoints Douglas T. Breeden as Chair of the Board of Trustees

Wilton, CT, December 6, 2021 – The Common Fund for Nonprofit Organizations announced the election of Dr. Douglas T. Breeden as Chair of its Board of Trustees. Effective January 21, 2022, Dr. Breeden will succeed Dr. Robert B. Litterman, who served as Chair for seven years and will remain on the Board.

Not only is Dr. Breeden a stellar figure in the field of academic finance, but he has served as a Commonfund Trustee for over a decade and possesses a deep understanding of the firm’s mission, history, and operational and investment strategies,” said Chair Robert Litterman.

His diligence, wisdom, and sense of humor have been a source of strength for Board and Staff members alike, and we welcome his leadership as the new Chair of the Commonfund Board," said Mark Anson, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Commonfund.

Dr. Breeden is currently the William W. Priest Professor of Finance and former Dean of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He has also served on faculties at Chicago Booth and Stanford and was the Fischer Black Visiting Professor at MIT Sloan. Dr. Breeden is an ardent researcher and has published seminal research on insurance prices implicit in option prices and the Consumption CAPM. He has spoken on Central Bank policy impacts to central banks in the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Dr. Breeden holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Stanford and an S.B. from M.I.T. He has served on the MIT President’s Council and the Stanford Business School Advisory Council. He Co-founded and was Chairman for 23 years of Smith Breeden Associates, a money management firm. The International Association for Quantitative Finance named Breeden Financial Engineer of the Year in 2013. He was on the Board of the American Finance Association and elected a lifetime Fellow.
