Commonfund Capital Closes its Third Secondaries Fund at its Hard Cap of $675 million | Commonfund Capital Secondary Partners III, L.P.

Wilton, CT, September 21, 2021 – Commonfund Capital today announced the closing of its third secondaries fund, Commonfund Capital Secondary Partners III, L.P., at its hard cap of $675 million. The fund was oversubscribed and had strong participation from existing limited partners as well a number of new investors; limited partners include foundations, endowments, family offices, insurance companies and sophisticated clients of the registered investment advisor and consultant community.

Commonfund Capital has invested in private capital since 1988 and has included secondary investments as an increasingly important allocation within their portfolios since 1993. They offered their first dedicated secondaries fund in 2015.

Cari Lodge, Managing Director and Head of Commonfund Capital’s secondary investment practice said “We are grateful to our existing and new limited partners for the support that they have given us. We continue to position ourselves as a differentiated player at the small end of the secondary market.”

Commonfund Capital CEO & President Peter Burns remarked, “Our secondary fund continues to benefit from the strength of our global investment franchise and the 30 plus years of private capital relationships that Commonfund has established.”

Noting recent final fund closings, Mr. Burns further remarked, “Investors continue to appreciate quality and choice in how they construct their private investment programs and value the ability to make specific allocations to specialized programs such as secondaries and co-investments, as well as to strategy-specific portfolios.” He added, “Many limited partners can build and complement their allocations through commingled fund options that can include concentrated portfolios of venture capital managers, small and middle market buyout sector specialists, and, within the arena of real assets, diversified private equity styled environmental sustainability investments.”
