The COVID-19 crisis has put tremendous strain on local communities across the country and foundations have been asked to rise to the challenge while endowments have declined in value due to market downturns.

During this webcast, recognized experts from leading organizations shared their experience and insights. George Suttles, Director of Research for the Commonfund Institute, led the wide-ranging discussion with Sherrie Armstrong, President and CEO of Community Foundation for a greater Richmond, Jane M. Conover, President and CEO of York County Community Foundation, and Anthony Peretore, Managing Director, Commonfund Asset Management.

We addressed some of the critical challenges that our institutions are facing today and in the aftermath of this crisis. Questions the panel considered:

  • How are foundations responding to the COVID-19 crisis? How are foundations engaging their board, staff, partners, and community?

  • How have foundations approached their investment process and oversight in order to focus on mission and still preserve endowment resources during this crisis?

  • How are foundations approaching their spending policy?

  • For community foundations, how are they partnering with other foundations to steer resources to local communities?

  • How are community foundations engaging with donors to fundraise and strategically deploy resources to communities during this time?
