The Commonfund community was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Laurie Hoagland. Laurie served as a member of the Commonfund Board from 2000-2012 and was Board Chair from 2010-2012.
Laurie played an instrumental role in the dramatic growth of Commonfund during the early years of his stewardship and was a vital, calming force during the challenges brought on by the financial crisis. He was deeply revered by fellow Commonfund Board members and staff alike.The long-time CIO of the Stanford Management Company and the Hewlett Foundation, and board and Investment Committee member of numerous nonprofits, Laurie was a quiet force – reserved in his style, formidable in his intellect and gracious to everyone. Laurie was well-known in the endowment and foundation circle as one of the pioneers in the field with a career that spanned more than fifty years. He will be sorely missed.
