Summer Intern Program

The 10-week Summer Intern program will provide exposure to the investment and financial world and an opportunity to work alongside asset management professionals with a range of experiences supporting client-related mandates.

The intern will gain exposure to all aspects of the investment process including exposure to global capital markets in which Commonfund invests. The program runs from June until August. Summer Interns will be based in Wilton, CT, New York City or San Francisco. Interns who successfully complete the program may receive an offer for full-time employment. Interns will be managed by a Director who will serve as her mentor and resource during the summer program.

Strategic Solutions (Wilton, CT)

Our Strategic Solutions Group takes a total institutional approach to investment management, addressing wide-ranging factors that extend well beyond portfolio management. We work collaboratively with our clients on all aspects of portfolio management, including investment policy review, asset allocation, portfolio construction, monitoring, rebalancing, risk management and reporting.

Private Capital (Wilton, CT)

Our Private Capital Group invests with global partners in primarily small and mid-sized companies in growth markets and industries with a focus on technology, energy, services, and industries in transition. We offer investors flexibility to match their portfolio needs by partnering with many of the world’s leading private capital firms. We invest through primary as well as secondary and co-investments fund structures.

Commonfund Institute (Wilton, CT or New York City)

Commonfund Institute directs the education and research activities of Commonfund and provides the long-term investor community with investment information and professional development programs. The Institute is dedicated to the advancement of investment knowledge and the promotion of best practices in financial management through a wide variety of resources. The Institute sponsors conferences, seminars and roundtables including Commonfund Forum (our client conference) on topics such as endowment management and governance. The Institute also undertakes proprietary and third-party research such as the Commonfund Benchmark Studies® and publications including the Commonfund Higher Education Price Index® (HEPI).

Research and Analytics (Wilton, CT or New York City)

Our Research & Analytics team applies their quantitative research skills to solving problems and developing data-driven solutions in institutional asset management, including in asset allocation, risk measurement, and manager selection.

Investor Services (Wilton, CT)

Our Investor Services team is responsible for delivering middle office operational support and client service across all clients.

Sales and Service (Wilton, New York City or San Francisco, CA)

Our Sales and Service teams are responsible for business development and relationship management of client mandates and portfolios.


Primary responsibilities will vary based on group but could include:

  • Assist with month-end portfolio review including rebalancing clients’ portfolios and cash flow analysis.
  • Assist with quarterly reporting process, including performance calculation and written analysis.

  • Help prepare client analytic requests.

  • Maintain and update presentation materials.

  • Assist with ad-hoc project requests from clients and senior staff.

  • Assist in the oversight of private capital investment platforms including global venture capital, private equity and natural resources.

  • Complete an operating metric project.

  • Assist with building and maintaining investment models across asset classes.

  • Assist with preparation of investment recommendations for various asset classes.

  • Participation in weekly investment team meetings across our investment teams.


  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • A demonstrated interest in financial markets, investments and economics.

  • A strong proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • A demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.

  • Students with majors in business, economics or finance, with a record of high academic achievement.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
