Our professional staff of 45 serves over 800 investors including mission-based organizations and pension plans. Operating Committee

Peter Burns, President & CEO joined Commonfund Capital in 1998.  His responsibilities include oversight of due diligence, manager selection and investment management for the firm’s private capital primary, secondary, co-investment, and distressed capital programs.  Mr. Burns is a member of the Investment Committee of Commonfund Capital and member of the Operating Committee of Commonfund Group.  He has 27 years of investment, corporate finance and lending experience.  Prior to joining Commonfund in 1998, Mr. Burns worked as a Vice President of Taglich Brothers, a New York based investment bank and brokerage firm.  Prior to this he was an associate in the Leveraged Funding Group of Heller Financial.  He is presently a member of the advisory board of several private capital limited partnerships.  Mr. Burns received a B.A. in Economics from St. Lawrence University and an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from Columbia Business School.

Anita Hariton is a Managing Director of Commonfund Capital.  Her primary responsibilities are in the area of investor relations, managing client communications and organizing educational programs for investors.  She has 16 years of client service and operations experience.  Prior to joining Commonfund Capital in 2009, Anita held a series of successively responsible positions within the Commonfund organization since 1995 serving on the operations, treasury and client service teams.  Anita worked with clients on issues pertaining to asset allocation, investment policy, treasury management and governance.  She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Temple Israel, Westport, CT.  Anita has a B.M. from Susquehanna University and a M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from Fairfield University.

Mark C. Hoeing, Managing Director and Head of Commonfund Capital Global Private Equity practice, joined Commonfund Capital in 2005. He is a member of the Investment Committee of Commonfund Capital. His responsibilities include oversight of due diligence, manager selection and investment management for the firm’s private capital primary, secondary, co-investment, and distressed capital programs. Mr. Hoeing relocated back to the Wilton office in 2014 having spent the prior five years living in London. Prior to joining Commonfund Capital, his experience includes positions at Deutsche Bank, evaluating third-party managers in the private capital funds division, as well as direct private capital investing with DB Capital Partners, Deutsche Bank’s merchant banking subsidiary. Mr. Hoeing began his career as a credit analyst and commercial lending officer with Citizens Financial Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland. He is presently a member of the advisory board of several private capital limited partnerships. Mr. Hoeing has a B.S. in Health Policy and Management and an M.B.A. from Providence College.

Cari B. Lodge is a Managing Director of Commonfund Capital. She is Head of Secondaries and a member of the Investment Committee. Her responsibilities include oversight of due diligence, underwriting, manager selection and investment management for the firm’s private capital primary, secondary, co-investment and distressed capital programs. Prior to joining Commonfund Capital in 2013, Ms. Lodge was at Tulane University’s Investment Management Office where she was responsible for managing the private equity and private real assets investments for the $1 billion endowment. Prior to Tulane, she was at Credit Suisse Strategic Partners, Credit Suisse’s dedicated secondary private equity practice with over $11 billion in commitments and interests in over 1,300 funds. She was a member of the investment committee, co-managed the $750 million aged primary program, and closed over 115 secondary transactions and co-investments for over $1.25 billion in total capital obligation. Cari worked with the team for twelve years since its founding in 2000, having started with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (which merged with Credit Suisse in 2000) as an Associate in Investment Banking. She is presently a member of the advisory board of several private capital limited partnerships. Ms. Lodge received an A.B. from Dartmouth College in both Economics and Government and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

Ralph P. Money is a Managing Director of Commonfund Capital.  He is a member of the investment team, senior product specialist and serves as the team’s lead limited partner contact.  Mr. Money has over 30 years of experience in investments, investor relations, nonprofit financial and general management and institutional banking.  Mr. Money joined Commonfund Securities, Inc. in 1999 serving the investment management needs of institutional investors primarily in the northeast.  Prior to joining Commonfund, Mr. Money held various leadership positions within foundation and mission-based organizations including the American Red Cross.  His responsibilities included setting strategic directions, financial and investment management, advancement and resource development.  Mr. Money also spent four years at the Chase Manhattan Bank as an officer responsible for covering financial institutions in New England and the Midwest.  He has served on the advisory boards of several private capital limited partnerships.  He currently serves on the investment committee of the Northfield Mount Hermon School.  He has served on the boards of directors of several social sector enterprises and is the former ranking member and chairman of the fire commission in Fairfield, CT, past chairman of the Investment Committee of The Unquowa School and is a former member of the Police and Fire Retirement Board for the Town of Fairfield.  Mr. Money received a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University and has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Miriam Schmitter is a Managing Director and Head of ex-U.S. Private Equity of Commonfund Capital.  She is also a member of the Investment Committee. She joined Commonfund in 2014 and is based in our London investment office.  Her primary responsibilities include due diligence, manager selection and investment management for the firm’s private equity programs while also contributing to venture capital, natural resources, and distressed capital programs.  Before joining Commonfund Capital, Miriam was with Cambridge Associates where she served as Managing Director and head of international private equity research in London.  She was also a member of the internal Investment Committee at Cambridge.  She started with Cambridge in Boston in 2005 and was responsible for due diligence and research published by the firm on private equity funds which resulted in significant client commitments to private capital strategies.  She also supervised due diligence on investment opportunities and oversaw consultants and associates in the Boston, London and Singapore offices.  Prior to 2005, she was an investment manager of private equity fund investments at Allianz, where she researched and selected private equity investment opportunities.  Prior to that, Miriam was an investment professional at DB Capital Partners/ DB Investor, the direct private equity investment division of Deutsche Bank, where she evaluated buyout investment opportunities.  She also worked as a consultant for Deloitte & Touche performing financial analysis and valuations and conducting financial due diligence for clients.  Miriam has a PhD from the University of Darmstadt and an MBA from the University of Mannheim.

Kent Scott joined Commonfund Capital in 2002.  He is head of Venture Capital and a member of the Investment Committee. His responsibilities include oversight of due diligence, manager selection and investment management for the firm’s private capital primary, secondary, co-investment, and distressed capital programs.  Mr. Scott is based in San Francisco.  He has over 26 years of investment, lending, direct private equity and financial accounting experience.  Prior to joining Commonfund Capital in 2002, Mr. Scott was a Vice President in acquisition and leveraged finance for Credit Suisse First Boston in Frankfurt where he executed acquisition financings for both financial sponsors and corporate acquirers.  Before that, he was a Vice President for UBS Capital in Frankfurt where he led the due diligence and financial structuring for direct private equity transactions.  He is presently a member of the advisory board of several private capital limited partnerships.  He is also a board member of Stanford Student Enterprises.  Mr. Scott holds an A.B. in Economics from Stanford University and an S.M. in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Timothy T. Yates, Jr. is a Managing Director and a senior member of the firm’s private emerging markets portfolio leadership team with a particular focus on Latin America. He is also responsible for custom solutions for clients across public and private markets. In this role, he leads a team of investment professionals that advise, implement and monitor custom investment solutions for over 70 clients representing more than $7 billion in assets. Tim joined Commonfund in 2000 as an associate in the Commonfund Capital Associate Program. In 2002 he joined the Strategic Solutions Group, Commonfund’s OCIO platform, where he was responsible for the design, tailoring and implementation of total portfolio solutions. Between 2013 and 2016, Tim focused on customized private capital portfolios for a small number of clients. Before joining Commonfund, Tim was an instructor of Spanish and Italian at Fordham Preparatory School. He holds an M.B.A. in Finance with a designation in International Business from Fordham University and a B.A. in Modern Languages from Trinity College. Tim is also a member of the investment committee for St. Paul’s Church in Fairfield.

David C. Jensen joined Commonfund Capital in 2013 to work primarily on the firm’s U.S. private equity programs, while also contributing to the Latin America, venture capital, natural resources, and distressed capital teams.  He is presently a member of the advisory board of several private capital limited partnerships.  Prior to joining Commonfund Capital, Mr. Jensen was a Vice President at Portfolio Advisors, LLC, a global private equity fund-of-funds and advisory firm based in Darien, CT.  During his tenure at Portfolio Advisors, he served as a non- voting supporting member of the Partnership’s Investment Committee and conducted due diligence, recommended, and invested in private capital funds including private equity, venture capital, and special situations/distressed debt opportunities in developed and emerging markets.  Mr. Jensen was a member of the Emerging Markets team and led all Latin American investment activities.  Previously, Mr. Jensen was a Summer Associate for Morgan Stanley’s Private Bank in New York City and Pelion Venture Partners, an early stage venture capital firm.  Prior to his M.B.A., he worked in the medical device industry for Stryker Endoscopy and played professional baseball in the Kansas City Royals organization.  Mr. Jensen received a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Brigham Young University.

Ethan J. Levine rejoined Commonfund Capital in 2011 to work primarily on the firm’s natural resources programs, while also contributing to the private equity, venture capital and distressed capital teams.  Mr. Levine originally joined Commonfund Capital in 2007 as an Associate in the Commonfund Capital Associate Program.  Prior to 2007, Mr. Levine specialized in energy markets at Charles River Associates, an economic and litigation consulting firm in Boston, MA.  At Charles River Associates, he advised power and utility clients with their damages litigation, regulatory approval and business strategy forecasting.  While at business school in 2010, Mr. Levine also worked at Rockland Capital, a private equity firm, where he conducted due diligence on potential power generation asset acquisitions and helped manage existing portfolio investments.  Mr. Levine is a member of the advisory board of several private capital limited partnerships.  He is a member and prior chairperson of the Dartmouth College Hillel Board of Overseers.  Mr. Levine received a B.A., B.E. and M.E.M. from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Aaron Miller joined Commonfund Capital in 2015 and helps lead the global venture capital program with Kent Scott. His responsibilities include oversight of due diligence, manager selection and investment management for the firm’s private capital Primary, Secondary, and Co-investment programs. He focuses primarily on the firm’s venture capital, emerging markets and private equity programs. Mr. Miller brings over 13 years of M&A, capital markets and management consulting experience. Prior to joining Commonfund Capital, Mr. Miller was a Vice President at Lazard in the mergers and acquisitions department in New York City. During his tenure at Lazard, he counseled companies and institutions in the technology, media and telecom industries (TMT) advising on strategic, financial, takeover defense and capital structure matters. While at Lazard, he led deal and due diligence teams in evaluating, negotiating, and closing transactions. In addition, he executed financings and M&A transactions in North America, Asia, and Europe. Mr. Miller also worked in the corporate finance department at Barclays and Lehman Brothers where he assisted TMT companies to raise capital and execute their financial strategy. Prior to investment banking, Mr. Miller began his career as a management consultant, where he counseled a broad range of clients on strategy, sales force effectiveness and organizational design matters. He is presently a member of the advisory boards of several private capital limited partnerships. Mr. Miller earned a B.A. from University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from Yale University.

Gene Ropiak, Controller, joined Commonfund Capital in 1999 as a Private Capital Accountant.  He oversees the preparation of financial and tax statements and the operational accounting for Commonfund Capital’s partnerships.  Prior to joining Commonfund Capital, Gene spent 5 years in various accounting positions, most recently with Health Partners, Inc.  Gene holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Connecticut and an MBA in Finance from the University of New Haven.

Morgan Securities in New York, and worked with Financial Sponsors and Private Equity funds in evaluating Leveraged Buyout opportunities in consumer related businesses. She has an A.B. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a minor in French from Princeton University. Daniel H. Connell is an Associate Director at Commonfund Capital.  Prior to joining Commonfund Capital in 2016, Daniel worked as a principal investor  on energy infrastructure with GE Capital’s Energy Financial Services, where he focused on both project finance debt and international equity.  Prior to his time with GE Capital,  Daniel worked in commercial development for Atlantic Power and served as an Intelligence Officer in the US Navy.  Daniel has a B.A. from Seton Hall University, an M.P.A. from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and an M.B.A. from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
