The Investment Stewardship Academy

Whether you’re a trustee, investment committee member, or senior staff, you play a critical role in stewarding your institution’s long-term capital. But in today’s increasingly complex investment environment, how do you develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed?

If you don’t have all the answers yet, that’s okay—we’re here to help. The Investment Stewardship Academy is an intensive, in-person, three-day workshop designed specifically for institutional investors and other select institutions. Through expert-led sessions and peer engagement, the Academy equips you with the tools, insights, and confidence to strengthen your governance and investment oversight.

Event Details

Commonfund Institute's Investment Stewardship Academy is an intensive three-day program that focuses on the essential principles and practices of stewarding long-term capital in a complex investment environment. Sessions explore topics such as governance, leadership, endowment management, investment strategy, risk, diversity and sustainability.

The next Investment Stewardship Academy will be held at Yale University in June 2026.  While details are currently being finalized, you may indicate your interest in attending this program by clicking the link below.  Registration will open in early 2026.

Who Should attend the academy?

Program content is geared towards trustees, investment committee members, and senior staff of qualified institutional investors, with at least 5-7 years of industry experience, such as:

  • Endowments
  • Foundations
  • Operating charities
  • Healthcare organizations
  • Other select institutions

Investment Stewardship Academy Curriculum 

The program takes a deep dive into the state of nonprofit institutional investing. Sessions are designed to explore topics on governance, strategic leadership and endowment management, with lessons from seasoned practitioners on key strategies, policies and portfolio techniques. Participants engage in discussions on public policy, governance and investment strategy, risk, endowment spending, values-aligned investing, DEI, sustainability and more.

Commonfund is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. Participants in the Investment Stewardship Academy have the opportunity to earn CPE credits for their participation.
